“This location is totally unique  –  on the water, great views, corner block, very relaxed and convenient,” said Chakra, who also co-owns coffee shop Jamaica Blue in Mount Hutton with wife Bhavina.

“I was on the lookout for an outlet to  showcase my Italian cooking expertise.

“As a chef I have travelled extensively throughout Italy learning skills, testing, food, learning off the locals, and I was looking to share that experience with the people of Lake Macquarie. It was perfect for my business.”

Casa-nova is fully licenced and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week with full coffee and bar service including craft and tap beer, local and international wines and an extensive cocktail/mocktail list.

“All our pastas at Casa-nova are cooked from scratch,” Chakra said.

“We make our own ravioli, gnochi and so forth and  have veal saltimbocca as well as a range of Italian food, tapas, wine bar, seafood, steak, ribs plus hot and cold beverages with full barista service.

“The aim is to create an environment  where people can relax and enjoy their moment, whatever the occasion –  be it  coffee with friends, business meeting, quick catch-up  or a long lunch.

”We’ll also do functions and catering and have a capacity for 100 guests.”

An evolving schedule of weekly events is planned including Tacos Tuesday, live music each Friday, and Date Night every first Thursday of the month, where guests can enjoy a candlelight dinner and then salsa dancing.

“My vision is to make this  little place the best spot for dining in the Newcastle area,”  Chakra said.

“We will provide fantastic breakfast until 11.30am each day, and then full lunch and dinner menu from noon, with the guarantee that the view, food and service will always be great.”

Chakra has also worked extensively throughout Australia including stints as   head chef for Crinitis Italian Restaurant  at Kotara and Darling Harbour, sous chef at Green Roof Hotel, Hamilton, chef at Crown Plaza  Hotel, chef at Pancake On The Rocks Sydney, head chef at Lucy Italian Cuisine Sydney and chef at Doyles On The Beach seafood restaurant.
