The Italian Tenors have returned for their second Australian tour, and this time the lads are really going to mix things up.

The Italian Tenors are Sabino Gaita, Luca Sala and Evans Tonon, three classically trained operatic singers who like to dabble in the world of crossover.

“On the classical side of things, Pavarotti was my absolute favourite,” Tonon told The Lakes Mail.

“I think he was one of the greatest of all time.

“But since we do crossover – pop and opera – I also have a passion for American crooners from the past, like Dean Martin. And today Michael Buble is an artist I admire a lot.

“I like to move between the two worlds and experiment. It’s the same thing that my colleagues (Gaita and Sala) feel. They, too, have a classical background but a passion for pop.”

The trio first toured Australia in 2016.

They played sell-out shows, so the encore tour Down Under was locked in for 2018.

This time, the tenors and their five-piece band will perform 20 concerts across NSW.

The tour arrives at The Art House, in Wyong, for a show on Thursday, December 20.

So what can the local audience expect?

“They will hear some fun songs, beautiful songs, and Italian songs that have been made famous worldwide,” Tonon said.

“There are some pop songs that we sing with our operatic voices, and then we have some strictly classical songs.”

About 90 per cent of the songs are sung in Italian. But if you’re not a classical fan, don’t expect it to be heavy going.

“We’re approaching Christmas so we’ll get into some Christmas songs. The most famous Christmas songs are in English, so we’ll have a couple of those,” Tonon said.

The tenors might wear serious suits, but they also like to have fun on stage, and it’s that charm that Tonon thinks resonates best with Australian audiences.

“We like to entertain. We like to make fun of each other a little bit, and to play with the audience,” he said.
