Work on the Fishery Point Road and Macquarie Street intersection at Morisset is ahead of schedule with the new traffic lights expected to be switched on next Thursday, December 20.

Member for Lake Macquarie Greg Piper said while the lights would be switched on next week, final works at the intersection would be completed in January after the Christmas break.
“I’m really pleased that the RMS has been able to do this work much more quickly than anticipated,” Mr Piper said.
“The new lights are part of an upgrade of the intersection which will improve traffic flow and safety in the area. I’m very grateful that the NSW Government and RMS are delivering this important upgrade to cater for the needs of the growing local community.
“While it’s on budget and ahead of schedule, we’re also getting a quality job with sandstone retaining walls already completed.”
To reduce impacts on motorists, the preparatory work including traffic light installation, road widening and line marking will be carried out between 7pm and 5am from Sunday, December 16, to Thursday, December 20, weather permitting.
Mr Piper said the project also included building raised concrete islands and changing line marking to provide clearer guidance for motorists at this busy intersection.
“An additional right-turn lane will be added from Macquarie Street into Fishery Point Road and road widening will be carried out to provide a second southbound lane on Fishery Point Road,” he said.
“Work to complete the intersection will stop during the Christmas break and resume in January from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturday, with some occasional night work.”
Motorists are advised to drive to conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
