The No 9 and No 10 batsmen held firm to see Wyong home to victory in the top-of-the-table clash.
Responding to Northern Power’s first innings total of 162, Wyong reached the victory target with just two wickets in hand.
Townsend (4 not out) and Whiteing (17 not out) each faced 40 balls in a tense afternoon of cricket. They came to the wicket at 8-141, and with Northern Power applying plenty of pressure.
Spinner Chris Archer ripped through the Wyong middle order in claiming 6-46. Wyong had started the day’s play at 2-113 and seemingly in control.
Northern Power will host The Entrance at Harry Moore Oval, Toukley, this Saturday.
In the Newcastle competition, Toronto Workers will resume at 3-113 in pursuit of Wests’ first innings total of 209.
Ryan Fenning (31 not out) and Adrian Chad (21 not out) will take up the run chase.
