News in brief: Lifesavers make 56 rescues at Soldiers Beach on first Sunday of summer

SURF lifesavers were kept busy across the region on the opening weekend of summer. At Soldiers Beach, a staggering 56 rescues were performed in the surf on Sunday alone. Across the state, lifesavers were involved in 232 rescues over the weekend. Additionally, the State Operations Centre tasked assets to eight incidents while ambulances were dispatched to 23 incidents. Lifesavers again urged beachgoers to swim between the flags, and be aware of surf conditions.
