Playing just his fifth game for the Bullets since arriving as a mid-season recruit, the former Atlanta Hawk's 24 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals performance helped the Bullets to a 104-85 win against the Illawarra Hawks at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

By his own admission, Patterson arrived in Australia a little underdone but has worked tirelessly on his condition in the gym.

And it showed on the court in his busy 25 minutes.

But coach Andrej Lemanis said his new guard was delivering on and off the court.

"We all knew that he is a good player. What is unknown often is the type of person that comes with that. And he's been great. He is fitting in and wants to do what's best for the team," Lemanis said.

"He's worked his way in, it takes time. He's showed that he is a quality player."

For Brisbane, the result was a relieving boost to a season resting on five wins and six losses. The Hawks left Brisbane with their seventh loss from 10 games.

No Hawk managed a consistent contribution but Brian Conklin's 16 points and five rebounds reflected his involvement under the post.

AJ Ogilvy also worked hard for his 16 points and six rebounds but coach Rob Beveridge was savage in his assessment of where the team is at.

The Hawks have now lost five of their last six games and face Adelaide at home in their next assignment on Sunday.

"Right now, this team simply has not jelled," he said.

"As head coach I've got to find ways of getting everybody on the page. I knew it was gonna take time but it's taken a lot longer than I hoped.

"If we can do anything in the next few days it's match the physicality. I want our players to man-up."

For two teams battling for relevance in pursuit of a top four spot, the quality of offence was surprisingly high.

Both sides shot at 60 per cent accuracy or better from the floor during the first quarter and the confidence of Brisbane's passing was stunning.

The Bullets looked comfortable and led by as much as 13 points early. But for all that fluency they could not do better than a 55-53 advantage at halftime.

Up stepped guard Jason Cadee who scored eight of his 15 points in the third term to help take the game away from the Hawks.

The load was shared as the Bullets put the Hawks away, with seven Brisbane players finishing in double figures for scoring.
