“Women in NSW have a one in nine risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime,” a spokesperson for the service said.
“BreastScreen NSW offers a free, high quality service for the early detection of breast cancer.”
When breast cancer is detected early most women can return to a normal life after treatment.
While women aged 50 to 69 years are particularly encouraged to attend, all women aged 40 years or older are eligible for free screening mammograms.
“Women should have regular screening mammograms every two years – once is not enough,” the spokesperson said.
“Having a mammogram isn’t difficult and early detection is vital.”
