Magnussen will join Commonwealth Games backstroke silver medallist Bradley Woodward and breaststroke bronze medallist Matt Wilson at the all-day clinic in January, at Speers Point Swim Centre.
Council’s leisure services manager Brad Sutton said learning first-hand from the champion trio was an invaluable opportunity for talented young swimmers hoping to follow in their footsteps.
“These athletes are among the best in the world in their chosen events,” Mr Sutton said.
“To have them here in Lake Macquarie, offering their advice and sharing their experiences, is a major coup for our city.”
Magnussen said he was looking forward to meeting local rising stars.
In the news:
“My swimming career was fostered in a regional coastal town of NSW and I’m really excited for the opportunity to give back to country swimming in NSW,” he said.
“I can’t wait for the opportunity to share my passion for swimming with the local community of Lake Macquarie.”
The clinic, on Sunday, January 20, will also feature sessions with national swim team coach and physiotherapist Adam Kable and NSW Institute of Sport swimming physiologist Stephan Crowcroft.

- Butterfly technique and dives.
An afternoon Q&A with Magnussen, Woodward and Wilson will cover how they manage nerves, what they eat on race day, how they stay motivated, and how they balanced school and training.
Mr Sutton said the trio would also be on hand for participants to get photos and autographs.
“Swim With the Stars is aimed at swimmers aged 14 and younger who are at district level or above in their swimming abilities,” Mr Sutton said.
“It’s about maximising the potential these talented young individuals are already displaying in the pool.”
Swim With the Stars places are limited. Tickets cost $150 per person, with food and drinks provided throughout the day.
