Not only is this a bushfire risk but to think that some idiot is wandering the streets at all hours of the night with accelerant... One day they'll grow up and hate for it to happen to them.

A SEDAN almost ran into the back of my car as I attempted to turn left into my driveway recently. It caused me to roll off the driveway and down into the drain. I thank the multiple people who took the time to stop and see if I was alright, as my car's back wheels were skyward. 

I particularly want to thank Nathan and his friend Tony, in a ute, and Simon in a 4WD who worked to pull my car out of the ditch. Friday was the last day I was to drive the lease car which belonged to my partner, who died a few weeks ago in a motorcycle accident.

To pull into any driveway off this road is tricky, but it is more difficult because of those drivers who are exceeding the 60kph zone, and do not slow down for turning vehicles.

I have only my motorcycle for transport now, and it is tricky to hit the dirt at the start of the driveway if a car is tailgating you. When driving, please have some consideration for people who are just trying to get home in one piece.

I DON’T know whether many residents in the Morisset area are aware that the bus timetable changed about a month ago. I only found out today when I was waiting for a bus which has been rescheduled. 

I asked a bus driver if there were hard copies of the timetable available and he said no, and that I would need to download a timetable from the website or phone the Transport Info Line. 

So, for those who aren’t on computers, especially a lot of the elderly people, there is now nowhere where they can obtain a copy of the timetable.

GEORGE Aungle’s letter (“Smoke and mirrors”, Lakes Mail, November 1) explained the difference between the fossil fuel burnt by coal-fired power and that burnt by a specific bushfire, and showed Australia’s power stations burn far more fossil fuel per year than any specific fire mentioned.

But this fails to recognise Australia can have hundreds of bushfires burning at the same time. In my letter (“Science of convenience”, Lakes Mail, October 25) my estimation was for one major burn verses one power station - not the annual total of all power stations against one major burn.

And, yes, these fires would easily be larger than Tasmania which was the fire area mentioned by the academic in Mr Aungle’s letter that would be required for bushfires to burn more fossil fuel than our existing power stations.

My point was that all climate predictions are made by climate scientists using theories and computers, without actual or proven evidence, meaning as theories differ so does the analysis.  Regardless of how many theoretical scientists are employed, it is still an estimation, and that’s a reason why real scientists, who use only proven data, don't necessarily agree with climate science. My money is on real science, using real facts.
