At Tuggerah today, Shadow Minister for Transport Jodi McKay joined locals campaigning for better accessibility at one of the Central Coast’s busiest stations.

Sydney Trains data indicates that almost 3,000 trips a day are taken to and from the station.

“Labor is investing in lifts at Tuggerah which are long overdue and were ‘stolen’ from the community,” Ms McKay said.

Member for Wyong and Shadow Minister for the Central Coast, David Harris, said the previous Labor government had been in the process of installing lifts when work was halted in 2011 following the election of the Liberal government.

“This project was being delivered in 2011 and was then cancelled by the Liberals,” he said.

The Berejiklian Government had ignored concerns about access for people with disabilities, those with mobility issues, and parents with prams, Ms McKay said.

“We have some of our most vulnerable members of the Central Coast community struggling to access public transport due to the neglect of Tuggerah Station,” she said.

“The Liberals have the wrong priorities. They are splurging $2.3 billion on Sydney Stadiums before looking at the local infrastructure needs of communities outside Sydney.”

Locals had raised the issue that the current long ramp and stair access makes the station difficult to navigate, Mr Harris said.
