An evening march through Warners Bay next Friday night, March 26, will demonstrate the community’s stand against violence towards women. Lake Macquarie residents are invited to show their support for safer communities by taking part in the annual Reclaim the Night march. Free barbecue treats will be provided by Warners Bay Scouts, and there will be live music. Participants are to meet at the rotunda for the march at 6.45pm. Those who arrive early can claim a free ‘Reclaim the Night’ t-shirt.

Harris welcomes vow to boost hospital security
SHADOW minister for the Central Coast David Harris has welcomed Labor Leader Luke Foley’s commitment to add an additional 250 security staff at NSW hospitals to protect staff, patients and families. “Nurses, doctors and hospital staff have all been telling me that violence in and around hospitals is a problem and that they are concerned,” Mr Harris said. “Staff and patients need their hospitals to be safe and secure.” Labor said assaults at hospitals had increased by 33 per cent in the last five years.
There’s a parkrun every Saturday
THE parkrun organisation hosts free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
The Lake Mac parkrun is held every Saturday from First Street, Booragul (opposite Booragul Primary School) at 8am. The San Remo parkrun is held at the same time, from Edgewater Park, in Narambi Road, Buff Point.
This month, parkrun Australia has joined with Heart Foundation Walking to invite more people to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of being active. Participants in parkruns must register before their first run, and it’s a once-only registration.
