It’s a weekend of garage sales right around the country.
And a stack of Lake Macquarie and Central Coast addresses are registered to host sales.
Every garage sale has a unique name and its own sale page that provides clues to what’s on offer.
Locals can explore the Garage Sale Trail website – garagesaletrail.com.au – and research the local garage sales to identify which streets they’ll target.
The idea of the Garage Sale Trail is to help encourage Australians to reuse, reduce waste, and minimise our impact on nature.
It’s also a great opportunity to pick up a bargain.
Among the garage sales scheduled in Lake Macquarie are.-
- The Massive Multi-Household Sale, 4 High Street, Marmong Point, on Saturday;
- Toronto Baptist Church, on The Boulevarde, Toronto, on Saturday; and
- Quality Bargains, 62 Webber Road, Wyee, on Saturday and Sunday.
At the top end of the Central Coast, sales include.-
- Buff Point Bargains, 53 Buff Point Avenue, on Saturday and Sunday;
- Jackson’s Going to High School Sale, 68 Moola Road, Buff Point, on Sunday; and
- Moving Sale, 105 Perouse Avenue, San Remo, Saturday and Sunday.
Central Coast mayor Jane Smith has decided to lead the charge by wearing a reused fashion piece called the Trail Blazer, made from repurposed clothing and fabric from designer Julie Paterson of ScrapClothFabric.
“We know that at most garage sales in our community the largest number of items being sold is often clothing,” Cr Smith said.
“Clothing and fast fashion is a big problem for Australians – we buy 27kg of new textiles each year and discard 23kg to landfill.
“Fast fashion is driving the purchase of clothing that is often discarded after two or three wears causing considerable problems in landfills.
“I’m wearing this fantastic blazer today to encourage everyone on the Central Coast to become a reuse Trail Blazer with me when Garage Sale Trail comes to town.”
