The Toronto and Warners Bay area sustainable neighbourhood groups teamed up to launch repair cafes in Lake Macquarie in May.
They are free events under the auspices of Lake Macquarie City Council, and the aim is to reduce what is being thrown out to landfill.
“People are shown the skills to repair clothing, garden tools and bicycles. All with a free coffee or tea and treats,” Stephen Dewar of the Lake Macquarie Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance said.
“And now furniture repairs are available with various Men’s Shed groups joining in. And other areas will host Repair Cafes in 2019, such as West Wallsend and Rathmines.”
Saturday’s Repair Cafe in Toronto will be held from 1pm to 4pm.
