The fastest boats to ever race in Australian waters thundered across Lake Macquarie, with thousands of speed-hungry spectators lining the foreshore for our third Lake Mac Big Weekend.
With 12 events over two days, the Lake Mac Big Weekend continues to be one of the Hunter region’s flagship annual fixtures.
I was lucky enough to experience the thrill firsthand, when I took a superboat for a spin at Thursday’s event launch last week.
And what an experience it was.
Creating unique and exciting experiences and opportunities for residents and visitors to kick back and have some fun is key to any vibrant and dynamic city.
Night markets, evening sports fixtures and cinema under the stars events are among the activities under consideration in a bid to bring our City to life after dark.
Council is in the process of developing a night-time economy strategy, focusing on creating a vibrant, safe and sustainable economy at night.
The night-time economy plays a significant role in a city’s prosperity.
It is important that we hear what the community wants, and what their ideas are for creating a thriving night-time economy.
Council is committed to creating a dynamic, diverse local economy that provides opportunities for residents, visitors, businesses and investors to live, work, play and learn close to home.
We’re talking about more than just pubs and clubs – this could be anything taking place from early evening to late at night, including sport and exercise activities, night-time markets or events, outdoor cinemas, live music performances, late-night shopping experiences and more.
One of my favourite things to do on summer evenings is head along to the Warners Bay foreshore and enjoy Music in the Podium with friends and family, listening to live music and watching the sun go down – wouldn’t it be great if we could see more of this around our beautiful lake?
