We will host the second round of the 2018 Australian Offshore Superboats Championships, an exhilarating display of high-speed racing set against the spectacular backdrop of our picturesque lake and foreshore.
The Superboat series will be the feature of the Lake Mac Big Weekend, two days jam-packed with fun and free activities around key vantage points from Eleebana to Warners Bay and along the Marmong Point foreshore reserve.
The high-adrenalin jet skis will be back at Eleebana, too, after the debut of the Lake Mac PWC Jet Ski Race series at the Big Weekend last year.
I had the opportunity to take a spin with one of the drivers last year and was amazed at their skill and athleticism as they around tight turns and slice through the choppy waters at up to 150 kmh (not that they hit top speed with me riding tandem).
A host of activities, attractions and entertainment will also be on offer on dry land, including markets, Lions Club displays and children’s amusement rides at Warners Bay and a pop-up bar, eateries and free water sports activities at Marmong Point.
Speers Point Park will host a show-and-shine car display and farmers markets on Saturday 13 October, and a food and wine festival on Sunday.
Matt Hall’s aerobatic team will be back with their dazzling displays of fearless flying.
The Red Bull pilot and part-owner of Lake Macquarie Airport is regularly spotted buzzing about in the skies over Lake Macquarie and his team always puts on a great show.
The weekend will kick off with a free ‘Jet and Jive’ concert at Warners Bay foreshore on Friday night between 6-9pm.
It is fantastic to have an event like this that not only brings our community together but shows off our beautiful City and lake to visitors and water sports fans from other parts of the country.

I’d also like to congratulate west ward Councillor David Belcher on his appointment as Deputy Mayor of Lake Macquarie for the 12 next months.
I look forward to continuing working with him, our Councillors and the community to make Lake Macquarie an even better place to live, work, visit and do business.
