Perhaps you’d prefer an intricate drawing of a Morisset kangaroo? Or maybe a large acrylic painting of rainbow lorikeets, featuring swirls of bold reds and greens, would suit your place?
One thing’s for sure: you’re bound to find some bargains when Art Lovers Movement, of Cooranbong, hosts its annual art show and sale in Morisset on the weekend of October 13 and 14.
For the first time, the show will be held at PCYC Morisset.
ALM president, Stephanie Macfarlane, said members would exhibit dozens of paintings over the weekend, demonstrating a range of skills across several mediums.
“We have works in every medium you can imagine, including watercolour, acrylic, drawing and mixed media,” Ms Macfarlane said.
Landscapes – and lakescapes, in particular – are always popular, but portraits, still life and abstract works will also be on show.
ALM comprises 120 mostly local painters who meet once a month at Cooranbong.
The group includes absolute beginners, accomplished artists, and lots in between. Meetings include demonstrations by skilled artists, and workshops, to help members learn new techniques and to hone their skills.
Ms Macfarlane said that while most members hailed from the Cooranbong and Morisset district, some members travelled from as far afield as Cessnock, the Central Coast, and even Port Macquarie.
She attributes ALM’s appeal to several factors.
“It’s not a pretentious group, it’s very friendly, and people aren’t there to judge you. We have a lot of visitors – friends of members – who come to see a particular demonstration and they end up joining, too.”
The quality of the teaching, and the inexpensive fees were also drawcards, she said.
The ALM art show and sale will be launched at a function on Friday, October 12, from 6pm.
The exhibition will be held from 10am to 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday, and will feature live demonstrations of ALM artists at work.
Light refreshments will be available throughout the event, including devonshire teas and toasted sandwiches.
Entry is by gold coin donation.
