Police were informed just after 11am on September 21 that the prisoner, 18, had escaped from Cessnock jail.
Tuggerah Lakes and Hunter Valley Target Action Group police began an investigation that culminated on Wednesday, when they attended a home in Burnett Street at Cessnock.
After officers spoke to residents, a man was spotted fleeing from the area.
After a short foot pursuit police found an 18-year-old man hiding in a wardrobe in the bedroom of a home in Scott Street.
He was taken to Cessnock police station and charged with a range of offences.
They include escape lawful custody, take & drive conveyance w/o consent of owner (x2), drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (x2), aggravated break and enter with intent, destroy or damage property, and enter inclosed land without lawful excuse.
The man was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Thursday.
