The Art House will be transformed into a vibrant Manhattan street corner for the salsa-fuelled show.
There will be four performances in Wyong from January 10 to 12.
The Art House marketing manager Emily Miller said it was a coup for the venue, and the region.
“This is our biggest show yet, with a full-sized set and huge cast of musical theatre royalty,” Ms Miller said.
“This is an incredible opportunity for Central Coast audiences to see a full-sized, Sydney musical in our own backyard before it opens in Sydney.”
The show’s music and lyrics are by acclaimed American writer and producer, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana, Hamilton), with the story by Quiara Alegria Hudes.
It’s set set over the course of three days in the vibrant neighborhood of Washington Heights, in New York City.
The musical debuted on Broadway in 2008, and won Tony Awards for best musical, original score, choreography and orchestration.
The Sydney production will feature the Central Coast’s Hi-5 star, Joe Kalou.
Kalou toured for many years as a vocalist, guitarist and flautist in The Rock Show with the late Jon English.
Kalou will also play Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre in February, 2019.
In The Heights combines the sounds and rhythms of salsa, soul, hip-hop and merengue with explosive street dance and rap.
Audiences have loved its uplifting and energising vibe.
“In the Heights takes audiences on a journey into the lives of the residents of Washington Heights – a New York City neighbourhood on the brink of change – and in the process poignantly captures what it means to chase your dreams while staying connected to your community,” Ms Miller said.
The characters of Washington Heights grapple with love, lust, identity and ambition.
Tickets for The Art House season are now on sale, and prices start at $40.
