Mayor Kay Fraser was there to present the winning team from Swansea Swim Centre the trophy.
“Our community can rest assured they are in safe hands at both our swim centres with all of the lifeguards performing well in their pre-season challenge today,” Cr Fraser said.
“Four teams of lifeguards from our Lake Mac Swim Centres competed in a variety of rescue scenarios, which were timed and scored.
"Competitions like this aren't a matter of life and death, but the skills they reinforce certainly could be. Fun days like this have a very real purpose of testing our lifeguards and ensuring they are prepared for emergencies that might arise as part of their day-to-day duties.
“Pools are among our most popular facilities and council has been systematically improving our swim centres, including the $2.4-million upgrade to West Wallsend in 2015, last year’s off-season improvements to Swansea and Speers Point, and a $6-million upgrade of the Toronto Swim Centre, which is currently under way.”
Charlestown, Morisset, Swansea and West Wallsend Swim Centres are open for use.
Speers Point Swim Centre will reopen in late September after maintenance and improvement works.
