Lake Macquarie City Council’s community assets section manager, Brendan Callander, said the refurbishment would allow the future lease and fit-out of the space for operation as a cafe or kiosk.
“Prior to the fire in 2017, the Redhead Surf Life Saving Club cafe was a popular beachside eatery that catered to the locals and tourists that frequent Redhead Beach,” Mr Callander said.
“The works to refurbish the space are expected to be completed by the end of this year, however Redhead Surf Life Saving Club will then need to appoint an operator to run the kiosk and undertake a final fit-out of equipment and furniture, so it may still be some time before the kiosk reopens to the community.
“We would like to thank the community of Redhead for their patience and understanding throughout this project.”
Founded in 1908, Redhead Surf Life Saving Club is one of the oldest surf clubs in NSW.
