Now in its 14th year, the Battle of the Bands helped launched the career of chart topping band Short Stack.

This year’s competition kicks off on Friday, September 21.

Council Director Connected Communities Julie Vaughan said the competition had proven hugely successful and many past participants had gone on to compete in national music competitions and to make their mark in the music industry.

“An important part of Battle of the Bands is the access it provides to young musicians for professional development with music industry professionals,” Ms Vaughan said.

The competition gives bands more than just the opportunity to compete for up to $3,000 in spending money.

Winners will also spend a day recording with a producer/engineer at The Grove Music Studios.

However, all entrants will also be able to access professional development opportunities and training.

An important part of Battle of the Bands is that it allows young musicians to participate in music industry workshops and interact with people who are professional musicians, producers and music engineers.

Professional development workshops will be held during the October school holidays. The competition is being supported by Macron Music and The Grove Studios.

Based at The Hub Erina Youth Entertainment Venue, heat one of the Battle of the Band 2018 series will be on Friday, September 21.

A second heat will be held on Friday, October 19, before the grand final is hosted on November 16.

The Erina Hub is also hosting a singer and songwriting competition for young artists aged between 7 and 24 years old.

The development program aims to put young talents in the spotlight through a series of heats, before the grand final hosted in December.
