It was an experience that “blew [him] away”, and left Scott thinking back to Gaye’s musical prowess, and “amazing power” for more than twenty years.
Now, he and a group of Australia and American performers will look to bring that same power, and a sense of “feeling” that Gaye evoked through his music, to the Laycock Street Theatre in Gosford.
“We wanted to take this experience around the country, so we’ve started in New South Wales and everyone that sees what we bring has such an amazing time, it brings so much feeling,” Scott said.
“Gaye and his music was mesmerising, there’s this deep feeling that he brings with everything that he’s written and you experience that story that he brings.
“We’re a fifteen piece group that plays for around 2 hours – and we had to cut that down massively because Marvin did so much work – and we’re just trying to spread the message of his music. There’s so much he still have to offer to everyone.
“There’s that love of what Marvin did, and I know everyone either loves or just simply enjoys all his tracks.”
Scott explained that while the venue is a theatre set up, the Experience makes people “just want to dance”.
“The gig is non-stop music, all the Marvin classics – including Heard It Through The Grapvine and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – as well as a few that aren’t played so much, and they’re all these amazing tracks that just get people on their feet,”
“People start singing along and it’s a big celebration of Marvin and everything that he did for Motown, for music and we really just have fun with it all. The more the crowd gets in to all his music being played the better we play as well.”
Scott also confirmed hits like Let's Get It On, What's Going On and Sexual Healing would all be trotted out at the Experience.
