Principal Simon Dodson said the new building was essential infrastructure.
“The cost of the project was about $2.6 million, which included $880,000 from the federal government,” Mr Dodson said.
“We are so thankful for the support of all levels of government for their support of schools generally, and schools here in Lake Macquarie.
“The new building we open today celebrates the creative arts, music, drama, visual art, and design. It really is a joy to see students creating things in this new space.
“The arts and culture is so important to a full and rich life, and we are so pleased to now have the space to completely explore the artistic part of our learning and curriculum.”
Lake Macquarie City councillors Luke Cubis, David Belcher and Jason Pauling were among the guests at the opening ceremony, held on August 24.
They later enjoyed a tour of the new facility.
Music teacher Cybele Craig and art teacher Dr Ari Chand said they were enjoying the new additions and had seen improvements in both teaching and learning.
Heritage College was founded by enthusiastic parents in 1997 on a leased site in Cooranbong.
The college bought the site in 2007 and began developing the school, which started with just 80 students. Since then it has more than doubled in size and has about 200 students.
