Shed president Peter Garland said it was a tremendous day, with a very uplifting result.

The $9000 haul easily exceeded the shed's previous garage sale record of $4000 achieved over the Wangi Centenary weekend in 2016.

“I want to give my thanks to all those who supported the event,” Mr Garland said.

That includes the dozens of locals who dropped in to make a purchase or simply put some cash in the donation buckets; the people who donated the items for sale; and the 40-odd members of Wangi Men's Shed who made it all happen.

“People just opened their hearts on the day,” Mr Garland said.

Items that were priced at $2 or $5 would often attract $10 from people who would smile and tell the Men’s Shed members to keep the change, he said.

Among the most popular items at the sale were books, CDs and DVDs, hand and electric tools, and camp ovens.

Mr Garland said a delegation from the Men’s Shed would drive to Merriwa shortly to present the local Country Women’s Association with the cheque which they would administer for distribution as cash and vouchers to local farming families.
