Hunter Water has begun to send drinking water to drought-affected parts of the Upper Hunter.

The utility, in partnership with Newcastle and Lake Macquarie councils, sent a tanker filled with 25,000 litres to Blandford and Murrurundi on Friday.
Tankers will be sent to properties across the region that are not connected to town water and need rain water tanks topped up.
“We are working with the Department of Primary Industries, councils and community organisations to connect with those who are most in need of more water, and we will make water available to those property owners for a period of time, free of charge,” Hunter Water managing director Jim Bentley said.
“Our Upper Hunter neighbours are experiencing some of the worst drought conditions in the state.
“We’d encourage farmers in the Upper Hunter to contact us if they need drinking water.”
Hunter Water said in a statement the initiative would not affect supply in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
