A free mass yoga class, suitable for all ages and skill levels, will begin at 8am at the event on Saturday, September 22.
Lake Macquarie City Council’s sustainability manager, Alice Howe, said yoga was a hit at last year’s festival when more than 200 people took part in a class.
“It is such a beautiful lakeside setting and a great way to set a happy and healthy tone for the rest of the day,” Dr Howe said.
This year’s Living Smart Festival will feature farmers markets, urban farming workshops, sustainable fashion stalls, cooking demonstrations and other workshops in keeping with the sustainable living theme.
As well as the 60-minute morning yoga session, free yoga classes for seniors and kids will be offered throughout the day.
“This is Lake Macquarie’s biggest sustainability event, and it gets better every year,” Dr Howe said.
“We have a really exciting line-up, and it is particularly topical this year with War on Waste host Craig Reucassel among our guest presenters.”
Registrations are not required for the 8am yoga class – participants can simply show up on the day with an exercise mat or towel.

Video arcade
AND for those who prefer to get their relaxation by strolling down memory lane, be sure to check out the pop-up retro video game console arcade at Toronto Library on Saturday, September 1.
Remember Sega Rally Championship, Pong and Duck Hunt? Well, those and other original video game consoles released between the late 1970s and the 1990s will be available to play from 9am to noon.
The pop-up retro video arcade is part of the council’s History Illuminated program of events from September 1 to 9. The retro arcade will feature a mix of popular consoles and rare items.
Select from a range of games to play, supplied by Gamer Collect. Entry is by golf coin donation.
