That’s the question many Toronto locals are asking following the completion this week of Lake Macquarie City Council’s $4.1 million makeover of the main street.
The good news is that council again confirmed this week that the road surface would be reconstructed.
The road works would begin after the water main under The Boulevarde was relocated, a council spokesperson said.
Relocating the water main was expected to take about three months.
“Council will undertake road reconstruction on The Boulevarde on completion of the water main relocation works. Work will be carried out between Cary Street and Victory Parade,” the spokesperson said.
Some correspondents to the Lakes Mail have been critical of the council’s approach of repairing patches, here and there, on The Boulevarde. Some have labelled The Boulevarde the worst main street in the Hunter.
But it would seem that the council strategy was not to over-commit to repairing small sections of The Boulevarde in recent years when they knew that a major reconstruction was coming.
Toronto business owners this week welcomed the completion of the footpath, gardens, and street furniture on The Boulevarde, but they are nervous about the impact that more construction works might have on the main street.
Council has been talking to Toronto Chamber of Commerce about how the works will be carried out and scheduled.
Early indications are that The Boulevarde will remain open to traffic during the works.
“Traffic controls will be in place during the construction period but the road will remain open,” a spokesperson for the council said.
