Director Helen Bristow said the not-for-profit theatre group would stage two one-act comedies – A Cut Above the Rest and Split Ends.
For $50, patrons would be treated to hors d’oéuvres and a sherry bar, a three-course dinner, plus tea, coffee and the fun show, she said.
Proceeds would again be donated by the theatre group to worthy causes.
“Catalina Players are now in our 44th year, and our donations to the local community exceed $235,000,” Ms Bristow said.
“We like to think that we are community helping community.”
Among the beneficiaries from the Catalina Players’ generosity have been local schools, families in crisis, locals dealing with injuries or disabilities, and families affected by domestic violence.
This year’s plays promised plenty of laughs, Ms Bristow said.
A Cut Above the Rest, by Claire Demmer, is a farce.
Snake (played by Bob Porter) and Harry (Hagen Heinrich) are con artists who plan the steal of a lifetime - the famous Devonport Diamonds owned by the late Amelia Agnes Devonport, aka Aggie.
All they have to do is discover where the diamonds are hidden, when they attend her funeral.
Aggie’s surviving sisters, Rachel (Helen Kerr) and Ethel (Madylyn Elliott), are distraught and are comforted by the Reverend Waters (Jenny Markwell) with their solicitor Ms Grim (Lyn Boyd) keeping an eye on the legalities.
“Split Ends is a comedy we have planned to do for some time, so we’re pleased we finally get to do it,” Ms Bristow said.
“Nancy (Madylyn Elliott) and Cyril (Hagen Heinrich) are about to meet their son Norman’s (Wes Galvin) new girlfriend Susan (Caryn Upton) for the first time.
“Susan, whilst as slim as a rake, has a stomach capacity of a large dustbin and starts to eat them out of house and home.”
The theatre restaurant shows will be performed at Wangi Workers Club on August 4, 11, 18 and 25, and September 1 and 8.
