About 11.20pm Wednesday a man was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Gosford for treatment.
Shortly after his arrival the man was removed by security because of a disturbance in the emergency department.
The man returned to the hospital and allegedly turned on a fire hydrant, which caused significant damage and disruption to the hospital.
Security managed to detain the man and police were notified.
Officers from Brisbane Water Police District attended and arrested a 20-year-old man.
He was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with destroy or damage property.
The man was refused bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Thursday.
