Reiterer was at his clinical best, making a clean sweep of the four races to win the Pro Modified Ski category.

Riding a craft built by Newcastle Jet Ski Centre, the 26-year-old  powered through the field, despite a couple of poor starts.

“The other guys were great out of the gate and pushed him hard,” race organiser and Australian Jet Sports Boating Association president Mark Glew said. “Kevin was so fast and smooth through the corners and only needed six inches of room and he was though on people. He was clinical.”

South Australian Jake Barker, who returned to the sport this year, was runner-up. He led two races but couldn’t hold off the Austrian.

Sydneysider Tom Aitken, who was on debut in the series, finished third.

“Aitken lost his goggles in the last race,” Glew said. “The skis get up to 130 kilometres an hour and the the rain feels like ball bearings. He looked like he had gone five rounds with Mike Tyson when he came in.”

Sydney’s Paul Leven made it back-to-back Pro GP nationals titles. Riding a runabout that pushes 600 horsepower and goes from zero to 120kph in 1.8 seconds, Leven won three of the four races.

Queensland young gun Bailey Cunningham, in his first season in the pro series, finished second. Kiwi Kylie Elmers was third.

Jordan Heaton was the best of the local contingent, winning the amateur stock class and there were also strong performances from Mick Burns and Brian Colreavy.

“Considering the weather impacted heavily on crowd numbers, we had some great racing,” Glew said.

“The biggest thing for us was that it was a safe event. There were no accidents, no issues.”

The 2018-19 watercross season starts with the Lake Macquarie Big event in October.
