Mr Linsey, 21, is studying carpentry at TAFE NSW Belmont, and is employed by Extrabuild.
The Hunter entrants are a mix of apprentices, trainees and students at the top of their games.
The championships will see more than 500 vocational students converge on Darling Harbour over three days.
Mr Linsey is in his third year of study in a Certificate lll in Carpentry, and his final year of a Certificate lV in Building and Construction.
He will represent TAFE NSW in the carpentry competition at the skills show.
Mr Linsey said that his anticipation was building after months of mentorship by TAFE NSW teachers.
“I am looking forward to competing in a competition that represents my industry and reflects what I do for work, and I can’t wait to see what I can achieve,” he said.
“Competing in an environment that puts me under pressure and requires effective time management to work successfully are skills that are prerequisites in my trade.
“I have my eyes set on gold and my goal this year is to improve my skills and be recognised for consistency in the quality of my work in all areas of my division.
“I’m really appreciative of this opportunity to showcase my skills. I’ve really benefited from my studies at TAFE NSW, they’ve been so relevant to my industry and helped me improve my building skills and opened the competition gate.”
TAFE NSW regional general manager, Susie George, said WorldSkills was the country’s largest vocational education and excellence competition.
“Ethan earned his place at the national competition after upstaging some of the best local talent at the 2017 WorldSkills Australia Regional Championships,” she said.
“The ultimate goal for Ethan will be to win a gold medal in his division, which will earn him a place on the Australian Skillaroos team to compete in Austria in 2020.”
