The project will include demolition of the current awnings and barbecues, replacing them with modern awning structures, barbecues and accessible dining settings.
Additional awnings and seating will also be included.
Central Coast Council director of connected communities, Julie Vaughan, said the upgrades would provide a new and more inclusive barbecue area.
“This area is often frequented by community groups, local residents and visitors to our region, so by adding in additional seating and an extra barbecue we are allowing for a higher utilisation of the area,” Ms Vaughan said.
“Additionally, improving and expanding our parks and recreation spaces is another way council can boost regional and economic development – encouraging low impact tourism.”
Mayor Jane Smith said the upgrades incorporated accessibility at the concept design stage.
“Council is committed to improving access and inclusion of people with disabilities in the broader community through our Disability Inclusion Action Plan – which we launched last year,” Cr Smith said.
“The Central Coast is home to a diverse and growing community and it is a key council responsibility to ensure we provide a truly accessible, inclusive and liveable community for all our residents.”
The project is included in council’s 2017-18 Operational Plan. Works are scheduled to be completed by the end of June.
