Jamie Byrnes was involved in both goals for the visitors. He supplied the cross for Dom Bizzarri to stab home in the 22nd minute.
The tall striker did it all himself in the 55th minute, collecting a long ball, chipping the keeper then heading it across the line. There was doubt whether the ball had crossed the line but the referee awarded the goal.
“We did what we had to,” Zane said.
“It was just one of the wins that you have to get in the middle of the year. Take the three points and run. I thought we were pretty good in midfield. Dom and Pat Wheeler were strong. We could have conceded late but Lakes just can’t find a goal at the moment. They are not a bad team. There is not much in the comp these days.”
Lakes coach Nick Webb lamented another missed opportunity.
“I was really disappointed not to come away with something,” Webb said.
“We conceded two very soft goals but at the end of the day we didn’t score. We hit the post twice, created heaps of chances and put them under pressure.
“It’s OK to say I’m proud of the boys but at the end of the day we still didn’t get any points. The goals were questionable but you have to live with that and move on.
“I honestly believe once we get our next win, we will go on a good roll.”
