The commitment to roadworks is a highlight of the $100 million worth of projects forecast in council’s Draft Operational Plan 2018-2019.
While council’s progress on the $4.1 million Toronto Streetscape Masterplan is delivering improved footpaths and dining areas on the main street, the warped and weathered condition of the driving surface continues to annoy residents.
Council reiterated that the driving surface would also be rehabilitated.
“Council will undertake road reconstruction works on The Boulevarde that will complement the beautification and reinvigoration of the town centre delivered for the community through the Toronto Streetscape Master Plan,” a spokesperson for council said in February.
The old water mains under The Boulevarde will be relocated after the completion of the Toronto Streetscape Master Plan.
The road reconstruction will begin after the water main is relocated, the council said.
That relocation work could possibly begin as early as this month, and is expected to take about three months to complete.
Other significant roadworks included in the draft operational plan include the the extension of Munibung Road, at Cardiff, to provide a direct link between Boolaroo and Cardiff.
There are also roadworks forecast in:
Wangi Wangi: Watkins Road, footpath in conjunction with Stage 1 road rehabilitation between Short Street and Crescent Road; and Beach Road, drainage upgrade works behind School Lane.
Morisset: Macquarie Street, road rehabilitation between Hospital Road and Rivergum Drive, continued construction; and Doyalson Street, kerb extensions at the pedestrian crossing fronting St John Vianney Primary School.
Windermere Park: Baldwin Boulevarde and Fishery Point Road, footpath and road reconstruction between Pearson Street and Grant Street.
Wyee: Ruttleys Road, improvement between Railway Bridge and Government Road; and Wyee Road, Stage 5 road rehabilitation north from Ruttleys Road roundabout for 1.3km.
Council said its survey of residents revealed that roadworks were a priority for locals. The survey results showed roadworks were given an “importance mean” of 4.83, out of a possible 5.
