The council voted on Monday night to put its draft operating budget and updated four-year delivery plan on public exhibition for 28 days before it’s adopted.

According to the budget, the base rate for homes in the city will rise from $682 to $713 next financial year – the base makes up half the residential rate notice while a cents-in-the-dollar formula based on the individual property’s value makes up the other half.
It follows a jump in the residential base rate, from 652 to 682, between 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Several projects were earmarked for the next financial year, including the completion of the first stage of the Pearson Street mall revitalisation, investigations into a community recycling centre for the city’s east, finishing construction of Munibung Road to connect Boolaroo to Cardiff and an electric vehicle charging strategy.
Mayor Kay Fraser said the budget was “a great opportunity to look at our future in detail”.
