The country superstar returns to the Toronto Workers Club at the end of April as part of his milestone tour, and he’s looking forward to sharing “all the memories of the past years” with his fans after the release of his greatest hits collection.

As well as his new release single Milestone, Brand will be bringing old favourites like Dirt Track Cowboys, Grandpa’s Piano, Good Friends and Hell of a Ride out for the gig, and he “couldn’t be more excited”.

“I’m so excited to get out and play for all these life-long friends that I’ve made across the past two decades of my career,” Brand said.

“The latest release comes from the part of my life where I stopped for a little while and looked back at this musical diary that I’ve left on the road, and I had a good smile at all these milestones in my life.

“This whole [greatest hits] album is about my journey, and a look through all my years as a musician and as someone revealing my thoughts and feelings in the music. It’s pretty cool to get to here, because I kind of thought at the beginning ‘I’ll give this a bit of a go, then find another job’.

Brand admitted he was a “realist” when it came to his music profession, and was “shocked” he made it this far.

“I feel so blessed and lucky that I’ve got this far, there’s a lot of hard work and I’ve put a lot of my stability over the years down to my passion,” he said.

“That’s a lesson for everyone – find something you’re passionate in and longevity will come along with it if you’re doing what you love.”

The country muso’s “labour of love” has him excited for the future, but he’s also enjoyed looking back at his past.

“It was certainly a challenge trying to find what my ‘best’ music was,” he said.

“I wanted to choose my pivotal milestones, including the very first song I’ve ever wrote. It’s a little embarrassing let’s be honest, but it was part of my journey.

“I had so much fun showing off my journey, warts and all, and to that end in the booklet there’s so many photos of me on tour, and performing and recording. All the way back to me at two or three years old.”
