Council’s CiviLake manager, Peter Murray, said parks across the city were still inundated following yesterday’s downpour.
“Our horticulturalists have inspected parks across the city this morning and with more rain forecast today and tomorrow, a decision has been made to close all parks to vehicles across the weekend,” Mr Murray said.
“This unfortunately means the cancellation of events including the Lake Macquarie Farmers Market and Art Bazaar at Speers Point Park, Movie in the Park at Toronto, and our Lake Macquarie Family Week live site at Belmont.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, however this preventative action is necessary to protect our green spaces from unintended damage.”
Residents are also reminded that Weir Road at Barnsley remains closed to traffic.
Council will update the community when the road reopens.
