The store closed on Thursday, March 22, and is set to be reopened post-construction at the end of the year.
It’s a much-needed upgrade for the popular shopping centre, Coles Mount Hutton Store Manager Nicole Bailey said, and she offered an insight into some of the new-look improvements on their way.
“It’s fantastic that we’re able to refresh our store to ultimately offer our customers a better, more convenient shopping experience,” Ms Bailey said.
“New store features [include] a brand new bakery with naked bread varieties and a ‘Scoop and Weigh’ bar that allows them to select, weigh and pack their own seeds, nuts and dried fruits.”
The upgrades will also include an expanded fresh produce area, a continental deli with “a variety of local and international cheeses”, and an open meat counter with qualified butchers offering a new ‘slice-on-request’ service.
There was also concern that the extended closure of the store location could impact team members, but Ms Bailey assured all involved that staff would be relocated to nearby Coles stores like Charlestown, Warners Bay and Jewellstown during the construction.
She also revealed there will also be an opportunity for new jobs in the community once the new-look store reopens.
“We’re excited to be expanding our store and reinvigorating our offering to our customers, and as a result of the refurbishment, we’re delighted to be able to create new jobs in Mount Hutton,” Ms Bailey said.
The Mt Hutton upgrades have also been welcomed by state officials, and Coles State General Manager Orlando Rodriguez said the “refurbished market-style supermarket has been designed in response to ongoing customer feedback”.
“We have heard our local customers’ calls for a larger selection of produce and enhanced fresh food service, which is why we’re investing in a new-look supermarket that is designed to suit their needs,” Mr Rodriguez said.
“Once the refurbishment is complete, shoppers will be able to enjoy a new layout and significant upgrades to each department.”
While the Mt Hutton store location is closed, Coles will be offering free delivery to all online orders over $50, to Flybuy members with a Mt Hutton postcode.
