Lake Macquarie Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance is helping shoppers transition away from single-use plastic bags by hosting information stalls at local shopping centres - including Morisset Square and Toronto Town Square - this week.
LMSNA spokesperson Steve Dewar said with some planning, our plastic bag habit could easily be replaced by a healthier one.
“We need to get into the habit of bringing our own bags,” Mr Dewar said.
“We want to help shoppers make the switch, and avoid purchasing any other plastic bags when Woolworths and Coles end their use of single-use plastic bags from July 1.”
LMSNA will be joined at some shopping centres by Upcycle Newcastle who will demonstrate how to make shopping bags from recycled T-shirts.
