The ICG is the biggest youth multi-sport event in the world and is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee.
Lake Macquarie has been a regular participant in the annual Games since 2008 and, in 2014, became the first Australian city to host the event.
The athletes selected for Team Lake Mac are: Caleb Baker, Skye Southam, Brew Austin, Dillon Siv and Emily Dobbins (swimming); Benjamin Roberts, Travis Petersen, Bryce Webber, Jemma Pollard and Jasmine Roberts (athletics); and, Erica Wattus and Millie Warham (tennis).
Team Lake Mac will be managed by the Hunter Academy of Sport and accompanied by mayor Kay Fraser.
“The International Children’s Games is a high-level competition that uses the medium of sport to promote cultural awareness and interaction, so our young athletes participate not only as competitors but also as goodwill ambassadors for their city and country,” Cr Fraser said.
Head of delegation, Karen Turner, from the Hunter Academy of Sport, said the Games were a great opportunity for emerging athletes.
“All of the competitors are aged between 12 and 15 so it is a rare chance for them to compete internationally and gain maturity as an athlete, all while making new friends and learning about other cultures,” Ms Turner said.
Four coaches have been appointed to guide the athletes in their preparation and accompany the team to Jerusalem: Mavis Godber and Gerrard Keating (athletics), Karen Leth (swimming) and Christina Laurie (tennis).
The Games will be held from July 29 to August 3.
