Toronto Workers scored their seventh consecutive win of the season, downing premiership aspirants Merewether by 36 runs at Ron Hill Oval in the final match of the regular season.

The winning streak cancelled out the Kookaburras’ sluggish start to the season in which they lost their first seven matches. The win saw Toronto finish eighth on the 12-team competition ladder on 51 points.

“I reckon there’s quite a few teams in the top four that are happy we’re not playing semi-finals. That’s for sure,” Toronto captain Adrian Chad said.

Having already surrendered first-innings points to Toronto after the first Saturday’s play, Merewether opted not to force this issue on the second day’s play. Resuming at 2-32 they batted out the day to finish at 9-194.

In the semi-finals this weekend, Wests will take on Hamilton-Wickham, and Merewether will meet Charlestown.
