Council said it had launched the new “augmented reality” game, Magical Park, to celebrate Parks Week from March 10 to 18.
“Using a free smartphone app, children can explore Speers Point Park, Thomas H Halton Park at Croudace Bay, and Rathmines Park while playing fun games featuring dinosaurs, robots, kittens and a cast of mythical creatures,” a spokesperson said.
Council’s community planning manager, Wes Hain, said the app would encourage families to discover new facilities at their local park.
“We know our community loves to have fun and be active in our City’s parks, and the Magical Park app represents a whole new way for families to do just that,” Mr Hain said.
“Simply open the app whilst visiting a participating park, select your adventure, and start playing – there’s lots of fun to be had and plenty of room to play in our parks’ open spaces.”
Magical Park can be downloaded through the App Store and Google Play, and is available to play in participating Lake Macquarie parks from March 10 to 25.
