NSW Attorney General, Mark Speakman, addressed a dinner function at Rathmines on Saturday to mark the 70th anniversary of the Northern NSW Federation of Justices of the Peace.
Catalina Conference Centre, on Dorrington Road, was the venue for the day-long event.
Earlier, the event featured a display of federation memorabilia, an information seminar on legal matters presented by Kathryn Halyburton and Kate Maher, and a special presentation acknowledging long-serving JPs for their voluntary service to the community.
Among the primary functions of Justices of the Peace are to witness a person making a statutory declaration or affidavit, and to certify that a copy of an original document is a true and accurate copy.
NSW JPs also have other functions under various NSW Acts, including witnessing other kinds of legal documents and administering special kinds of oaths.
