Last down the hill, the Morisset rider sent the spectator bowl into meltdown when he passed through the finish beam in a time of 3:24:321 – more than six seconds faster that the old mark, which was also lowered by Newcastle’s Graeme Mudd who finished second
Jackson Frew (ACT) rounded out the bottom step of the podium.
“The track condition was as good as you could get it so it was real fun all day,” Moir, the Australian champion, said.
It was Moir’s second win of the series, and the first on his home track.
Moir now will head to the 2018 Downhill National Championships in Bright, Victoria, to defend the national title he won in Queensland last year.
In the elite women’s category, Tegan Molloy (NSW) claimed her first national series victory since Round 2 at Thredbo last year, stopping the clock in a time of 4:20:686.
Danielle Beecroft (NSW) and Lisa Mathison (QLD) claimed the minor placings.
“It’s nice to get a win, especially at the national level because Danni is pushing really hard, as are all the other girls, so it definitely makes you work,” Molly said.
Molloy was third fastest in seeding, but dropped eight seconds off her time to take the top step on the podium.
Beecroft suffered a crash which ended any chance she had of going back to back at the venue.
In the junior men’s division, Patrick Butler (NSW) was a popular winner on his home track.
Round 1 winner Matt Carter (VIC) set a time of 3:42:899, which had him at the top of the leader board as 26 riders came and went.
It took the final rider down the course, Butler, to knock him off the top step and claim his first win of the national series.
Despite Butler’s victory he still sits fourth in the overall series rankings behind Aaron Gungl (VIC).
Riders will now turn their attention to the national championships, in Bright, from March 2 to 4. Round 3 of the series is at Narbethong, Victoria, on March 17 and 18.
