President Mick Payze said the event had been organized to raise money for a club project supporting hospital services in the community of Morogoro, in Tanzania.
“This is a project that has been championed by our own young member Eleni Comino who, at 16 years of age, did a two-week overseas experience trip to confirm her decision to train to be a doctor. Eleni will commence bio-medical studies this year,” Mr Payze said.
Ms Comino graduated from the Hunter School of Performing Arts in 2016, and spent 2017 as a gap year prior to starting fulltime bio-medical studies at the University of Newcastle.
During her gap year, Ms Comino went to Tanzania on a program run by the UK organisation, Gap Medics, which offers students from the UK, USA and Australia opportunities to experience medical environments prior to committing to a field of study.
Guest speaker at the dinner will be Linus Faustin, a young man from Tanzania whose drive brought him to Australia to study.
Locals can also support the project with tax-deductible donations through the online link to the Rotary Australia World Community Service.
