“The keepers strive to keep the animals as cool as possible, whether it be leaving sprinklers on, making ice blocks out of their favourite frozen food, or simply giving the animals a cool shower,” a spokesperson for the park said.
“It’s hard not to smile when you see how much Hugo loves being sprayed with the hose, the dangerous cassowary fluffing its feathers in happiness, the tawny frog mouths stretching their wings out for an extra splash of water, the dingos and Tasmanian devils lighting up at the excitement of a freezing cold ice block (named a “bloodsickle” by the keepers) and the emus splashing around in the water – it truly is as wholesome as it gets.
“Perhaps more excitingly, the dinosaurs – a part of the Dinosaurs ALIVE event – also love the heat,” they said.
“This has not stopped them from roaming around and terrorizing visitors here at the park.”
This is the last week to catch the dinosaurs at the park.
The Australian Reptile Park is a hands-on zoo at Somersby. It offers live shows, themed exhibits, and interaction with many of the wildlife sanctuary’s residents.
The park is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
