In fact, all four of Lake Macquarie City Council’s lakeside holiday parks have enjoyed a busy Christmas and school holiday season.
Council’s holiday parks co-ordinator, Garry Ellem, said the overall occupancy rate for the Christmas holiday period was 90 per cent, an increase of more than 3 per cent compared to previous years.
The council’s holiday parks are in Swansea, Blacksmiths, Belmont and Wangi Wangi.
Guests at Wangi Point Holiday Park enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the site, Mr Emmem said.
“The overall occupancy rate at Wangi Point Holiday Park over the Christmas period was 90 per cent,” he said.
“This year, park guests have doubled the length of their stay in the park’s cabins and villas, staying an average of 6.8 nights longer compared to previous years.
“Campers have also enjoyed longer caravan and camping holidays averaging 5.3 nights on powered sites over this busy period. Wangi Point continues to attract park guests from far and wide with more than 70 per cent of our Christmas guests travelling from outside the Hunter region.”
This year, minor cabin refurbishment works would continue at the Wangi Point park, he said.
The Swansea holiday park also enjoyed an increase in popularity this holiday season.
“Swansea Lakeside Holiday Park saw the largest increase in occupancy over this period increasing from 85 per cent in 2016 to 89 per cent in 2017,” Mr Ellem said.
“Over the past eight years, we have completed an extensive capital works program at each of the parks which included the upgrade and refurbishment of park offices and entries, cabin accommodation, amenities blocks and roads, and the installation of new recreational facilities such as camp kitchens, recreation rooms and resort-style swimming pools.”
This year, the program will continue with an upgrade and refurbishment of an amenities block at Swansea and cabin refurbishments across all of the parks.
“By reinvesting back into our holiday parks, we have been able to increase their combined revenue by 13 per cent and provide improved accommodation options and facilities for visitors to Lake Macquarie City,” Mr Ellem said.
“Belmont Lakeside received an additional 99 tourists staying for an average of over four days across the Christmas/New Year period. The increases in visitation and tourism also provide benefits back to local businesses with average tourist visitor spend of $73 per day on goods and services in the area.”
Lake Mac Holiday Parks were a haven for water lovers as they were in prime positions for boating, fishing, swimming and water sports, Mr Ellem said.
There is still a range of accommodation options available at the parks throughout the remainder of the January school holidays.
