The top ten is rounded out by a combined law degree and bachelors in business, psychological science, physiotherapy, midwifery and occupational therapy.

Pro vice-chancellor (teaching and learning) Professor Liz Burd said the first preference applications to date reflected an increase on last year’s numbers.

“We are also especially pleased to see that the number of school leavers who have chosen the University of Newcastle as their first choice has increased by 8 per cent,” she said.

Students with higher marks than expected or seeking a back-up plan are also encouraged to attend a future students’ information session at one of the campuses.
