LAKE Macquarie City Council says forget about dreaming of a white Christmas. Go for a green one, instead. Among its tips are: stick to solar or LED Christmas lights and use a timer so you don't forget to turn them off; use fabric, tea towels or reusable bags to create beautifully wrapped gifts without the waste; and give the gift that keeps on growing - a native plant. Lake Macquarie Landcare sells native seedlings to the public.
