THE Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) this week announced that local councils would be able to increase the revenue they collect from rates by up to 2.3 per cent in 2018-19. But the rate peg decision will not affect rates in Lake Macquarie. That’s because the council secured a seven-year special rate variation, through the IPART process, in 2012. The announcement from the IPART would have no impact on the city’s rates, council said.
